Dover, DE – Denny Hamlin navigated a chaotic NASCAR All-Star Race at Dover International Speedway, ultimately claiming the coveted $1 million prize and his second career All-Star victory. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver, who started from the pole, dominated significant portions of the event, leading 103 laps en route to the win.
The race, held under the lights at the notoriously challenging "Monster Mile," was marked by numerous incidents and cautions, testing the resolve and strategy of the 20-car field. Hamlin’s performance was a testament to his car’s speed and his own race-craft, as he consistently found himself at the front of the pack, even after restarts that often saw the field reshuffled due to crashes.
Following Hamlin across the finish line was his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate, Chase Briscoe, who put in a strong performance, leading 61 laps. Completing a manufacturer sweep for Toyota, Erik Jones of Legacy Motor Club secured a solid third-place finish. Austin Dillon rounded out the top four, with Connor Zilisch, Austin Cindric, William Byron, Michael McDowell, Alex Bowman, and Brad Keselowski completing the top ten.
"It makes it a lot easier when you got a car this fast honestly," Hamlin commented after the race, reflecting on the demanding nature of the All-Star format. "I liked it. It challenged us to have to go through traffic. Otherwise, I mean, you could go out there, and you could lead a bunch of laps. I definitely like the invert. Obviously it caused some chaos there, took out some good cars."

Hamlin’s victory marks his second All-Star Race triumph, adding to his impressive career accolades. Joe Gibbs Racing, a powerhouse in NASCAR, continues its strong season with this significant win, demonstrating the team’s continued dominance in the Cup Series.
The event began with immediate drama. On just the second lap, a multi-car incident involving Ryan Preece, Todd Gilliland, and Kyle Larson erupted near the rear of the field. The melee, which encompassed nine cars, necessitated a red flag to clear the track. Notably, Preece’s car caught fire after impacting the outside wall, though he emerged from the incident uninjured. Both Larson and another driver involved, who were already locked into the final segment, saw their teams work diligently to repair their machines in the garage, aiming to rejoin the race at the tail end of the field for the final 200-lap stretch.
Hamlin had taken the lead from Brad Keselowski early in the first segment and appeared poised to control the run. However, the closing laps of the segment were marred by another incident. Carson Hocevar’s car suffered a flat tire and made contact with the wall, bringing out a caution just a few laps shy of the segment’s conclusion. A strategic decision by some teams to pit for fresh tires, including William Byron, contrasted with others who elected to stay out.
The ensuing restart saw Bubba Wallace surge past Hamlin for the lead. But the action was short-lived as another significant crash erupted on the frontstretch. The incident, involving Ryan Herbst and Alex Bowman, quickly escalated into a nine-car pile-up, eliminating several contenders from the race, including Chase Elliott, Kyle Busch, Christopher Bell, Ty Gibbs, and Chris Buescher. While Busch was unable to return as a locked-in competitor, Elliott’s damage was too extensive to continue. Wallace ultimately won the first segment, with Hamlin and Ross Chastain following. The scheduled invert for the second segment, however, was poised to significantly alter the race’s complexion.
The second 75-lap segment commenced with a shuffled starting order due to the preceding crashes. Drivers who were supposed to start at the front, such as Nemechek, Herbst, Bell, and Buescher, found themselves in the garage, forcing AJ Allmendinger and Supercars champion Shane van Gisbergen to the front row. Allmendinger and van Gisbergen engaged in a spirited battle for the lead before another caution interrupted their duel.
Ross Chastain and Brad Keselowski collided at the exit of Turn 2, resulting in both cars spinning. Bubba Wallace, the segment one winner, was also caught up in the incident, forcing all three to pit road. Chastain’s race concluded due to the damage, while Keselowski and Wallace were eventually able to return to the track.
Allmendinger and van Gisbergen resumed their lead battle, but van Gisbergen spun while running side-by-side with Allmendinger, narrowly avoiding further contact. Tyler Reddick then assumed control of the race, holding the lead until a yellow flag waved for a spinning Ty Gibbs, who was attempting to manage a flat tire.
During the caution period, Christopher Bell returned to the race after an extended period in the garage. Many teams opted for pit stops, employing various tire strategies, with some taking four fresh tires, others two, and some opting for used rubber. Allmendinger briefly held the lead before being overtaken by Chase Briscoe, who was then subsequently passed by Tyler Reddick. Reddick went on to win the second segment, with Briscoe, Hamlin, Carson Hocevar, and Connor Zilisch following.
The starting order for the final 100-lap segment was determined by the average finish of the first two segments. Denny Hamlin earned the pole position based on his strong performance in both, with Chase Briscoe and Tyler Reddick lining up behind him. The drivers who advanced from the All-Star Open, the preliminary race to determine starting spots in the main event, included Connor Zilisch, Erik Jones, Alex Bowman, Michael McDowell, Timmy Hill (who advanced via the fan vote), Daniel Suárez (also a fan vote recipient), Noah Gragson, and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. The fan vote ultimately propelled Daniel Suárez into the final segment, despite damage to his car.
The final segment saw Briscoe briefly take the lead from Hamlin on a restart, but Reddick’s strong pace on longer runs allowed him to pass both drivers. Rookie Connor Zilisch impressed by moving up to third in the No. 88 Trackhouse Chevrolet. As the battle for the lead intensified, Briscoe began to fade, and Hamlin challenged Reddick.
Notable incidents continued, with Kyle Busch and Christopher Bell making unscheduled pit stops. Busch incurred a speeding penalty during his stop. Reddick then lost positions to Hamlin and Zilisch just before a competition caution with 125 laps remaining. Zilisch, poised to restart alongside Hamlin, was penalized for equipment interference.
Hamlin regained firm control of the race as the field initiated a round of green-flag pit stops with 65 laps to go. However, Joey Logano suffered a tire failure and crashed shortly after his pit stop, impacting several drivers who had recently pitted, including William Byron, Carson Hocevar, and Ryan Blaney.
The race resumed with 52 laps remaining, and Briscoe quickly moved to the front on the restart, but Hamlin remained in close pursuit. Tyler Reddick encountered an issue and was forced to pit under green, allowing Erik Jones to move into third place. The No. 45 23XI Racing team immediately inspected Reddick’s car, effectively ending his bid for the All-Star victory.
With 29 laps remaining, Hamlin finally executed a pass on Briscoe and then pulled away to secure his victory. Despite his earlier penalty, Connor Zilisch displayed remarkable resilience, driving his way back into the top five by the checkered flag.
The NASCAR All-Star Race, known for its exhibition status and emphasis on entertainment, delivered on its promise of high-octane action and unexpected turns, ultimately crowning Denny Hamlin as its $1 million champion.
