Ricky Stenhouse Jr., the celebrated 2023 Daytona 500 champion, has finalized a multi-year contract extension with Hyak Motorsports, ensuring his continued presence behind the wheel of the No. 47 Chevrolet. The agreement solidifies a key partnership for the growing organization and provides stability for Stenhouse as he embarks on further seasons in the NASCAR Cup Series.
Gordon Smith, owner of Hyak Motorsports, expressed his satisfaction with the extension, highlighting Stenhouse’s integral role in the team’s developmental trajectory. "Ricky has been a huge part of what we’re building at Hyak Motorsports, and we’re proud to continue this partnership for years to come," Smith stated. "He brings experience, leadership, and a competitive mindset every weekend, and we believe there’s still a lot ahead for this team with Ricky in the No. 47."
Stenhouse’s tenure in the NASCAR Cup Series now spans nearly 500 starts, marked by four victories, all achieved on superspeedway configurations. Prior to joining Hyak Motorsports (then JTG Daugherty Racing) in 2020, Stenhouse spent his initial Cup Series years with RFK Racing. His move to the No. 47 Chevrolet established a new chapter in his career, which will continue under the Hyak Motorsports banner following the team’s rebranding ahead of the 2025 season.
Reflecting on the renewed commitment, Stenhouse conveyed his enthusiasm and gratitude. "I’m thrilled to finally get this contract extension done. It’s something we’ve been working on for a while, and I’m really thankful to everyone at Hyak Motorsports, especially Gordon," Stenhouse commented. "His vision for this race team and the passion he brings to it every single day is special. A lot of people may not know Gordon that well yet, but he truly cares about motorsports, NASCAR, and this No. 47 team, and that shows in everything he does."

Stenhouse elaborated on the team’s dynamics and future prospects. "Along with Gordon, Brad, Mark, Ernie, and everyone at Hyak Motorsports, I feel like we’re continuing to improve week after week. It’s never easy being a single-car team, but the experience we’re gaining and the notebook we’re building is helping us get better and better. More than anything, this team feels like one big family. On and off the racetrack, we’re building something that has me really excited about the future of Hyak Motorsports and what we can accomplish together moving forward."
Hyak Motorsports operates as one of the few remaining full-time single-car teams in the NASCAR Cup Series. This operational model places it in a select group alongside Haas Factory Team, Rick Ware Racing, and the Wood Brothers Racing team, the latter of which maintains a close operational alignment with Team Penske. The challenges and advantages of a single-car operation often revolve around resource allocation and the development of technical data.
Currently, Stenhouse Jr. is positioned 27th in the NASCAR Cup Series championship standings. His most notable performance of the current season came in the opener, the 68th running of the Daytona 500, where he secured a second-place finish. This result underscores his continued proficiency on high-speed ovals, a track type where all of his Cup Series victories have been recorded.
The extension signifies a period of potential growth and increased competitiveness for Hyak Motorsports. As Stenhouse and the team continue to refine their operations and build upon their established foundation, the focus will be on translating recent successes and ongoing development into consistent strong performances throughout the season and into future championship campaigns. The stability provided by a multi-year commitment from a proven driver like Stenhouse Jr. is often a critical component for teams aiming to ascend the competitive ladder in the highly contested NASCAR Cup Series. His experience, particularly in high-pressure situations and on speedways, offers a valuable asset to a team striving to maximize its potential.
The NASCAR Cup Series calendar continues with a series of challenging races, and Hyak Motorsports will be looking to leverage the continuity and positive momentum generated by this contract announcement. The team’s strategy of developing around a core driver and building a cohesive unit is a common approach in motorsports, and Stenhouse Jr.’s commitment suggests a shared belief in the long-term vision of Hyak Motorsports. The coming seasons will be a key indicator of how this partnership evolves and its impact on the broader competitive landscape of the Cup Series.
