BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. – Authorities in Buncombe County, North Carolina, have announced an arrest in connection with a burglary that targeted the home of retired NASCAR Cup Series legend Dave Marcis. The incident occurred while Marcis, a figure with a storied career spanning over three decades, was away from his Arden residence. The theft resulted in the loss of numerous items, including highly prized and irreplaceable NASCAR memorabilia.
Dave Marcis, 85, is etched into the annals of NASCAR history for his remarkable endurance and consistent performance. Between 1968 and 2002, he started an impressive 883 races in the premier NASCAR Cup Series. This places him third all-time in starts, a testament to his dedication and longevity in a demanding sport. During his 35-year career, Marcis secured five victories and achieved significant success, notably finishing as the championship runner-up in 1975. His contributions to the sport extend beyond his driving career, marking him as a respected personality in the NASCAR community.
The breakthrough in the investigation came not through traditional investigative methods alone, but via an unexpected digital avenue. A stranger reached out to Shawna Beam, Marcis’ daughter, through the social media platform Facebook. This unsolicited contact provided a critical lead that propelled the investigation forward.
According to a report from WLOS News 13, which conducted an interview with Beam, the individual who contacted her claimed to have unknowingly purchased items believed to be stolen from the Marcis home at a local flea market in Fletcher, North Carolina. This crucial information directly led to the apprehension of at least one suspect in connection with the burglary. The individual now faces felony charges for breaking and entering.

Among the stolen articles were Rolex watches, which were reportedly gifted to Marcis by racing magnate Roger Penske upon his retirement. Furthermore, a rifle that was taken was a gift from the late Dale Earnhardt Sr., a close friend and contemporary of Marcis.
