Pocono Raceway is going to extraordinary lengths this weekend to commemorate the indelible legacy of NASCAR legend Kyle Busch, affectionately known as "Rowdy." While the iconic infield grass, a canvas for numerous tributes, is absent at the Pennsylvania track, Pocono has implemented a series of meaningful gestures to honor the late driver, who passed away unexpectedly on May 21st at the age of 41 due to complications from pneumonia that progressed to sepsis.
Busch’s unparalleled career saw him amass an astonishing 234 NASCAR victories across all three national divisions, a record that stands unmatched in the sport’s history. Of these remarkable wins, eight were achieved on the challenging 2.5-mile triangular oval at Pocono Raceway. His dominance at "The Tricky Triangle" included Cup Series victories in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2021. Over the course of his illustrious career, Busch made 38 Cup Series starts at Pocono, solidifying his status as one of the track’s most successful competitors.
In a poignant acknowledgment of his achievements, Pocono Raceway has added Kyle Busch to its esteemed "Walk of Fame." This special tribute features engraved rocks bearing the names and car numbers of some of NASCAR’s most iconic figures. Busch’s rock now rests alongside that of seven-time Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson, a testament to his elevated standing within the sport.
Further enhancing the tribute, the raceway has erected special signage that prominently commemorates Busch’s eight victories at Pocono. Above the entrance to the garage area, a prominent sign now displays "ROWDY" flanked by two prominent No. 8s, a direct nod to his nickname and car number. This declaration of his presence and impact extends to the very heart of the racing surface, with "ROWDY" and two No. 8s also painted along the start/finish line on the frontstretch, ensuring his spirit is felt by drivers and fans alike throughout the event.
