NASCAR’s Pantheon Expands: Harvick, Burton, and Phillips Headline the 2027 Hall of Fame Inductees

The prestigious NASCAR Hall of Fame will welcome a distinguished trio into its hallowed halls as Kevin Harvick, Jeff Burton, and Larry Phillips have been announced as the Class of 2027. The decision was finalized on Tuesday following a closed-door session of the NASCAR Hall of Fame Voting Panel at the Charlotte Convention Center, where 15 nominees were deliberated upon by a 50-member panel. This influential group comprises current Hall of Fame members, track owners, media representatives, manufacturer delegates, and the reigning Cup Series champion, Kyle Larson. Fan sentiment also played a role, with a collective vote gathered through NASCAR.com.

The rigorous selection process was meticulously overseen by the accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), ensuring the integrity and accuracy of the vote tabulation. Kevin Harvick emerged as a dominant force in the Modern Era balloting, securing an impressive 92 percent of the votes. Jeff Burton also earned significant support, garnering 32 percent of the Modern Era votes. Among the other notable nominees in this category were driver Neil Bonnett, renowned engine builder Randy Dorton, and driver Greg Biffle. In the Pioneer category, Larry Phillips received 38 percent of the votes, solidifying his place among NASCAR’s foundational figures.

The Modern Era ballot featured a competitive field, including Biffle, Bonnett, Tim Brewer, Dorton, Ray Elder, Ernie Elliott, Randy Lajoie, and Jack Sprague. The Pioneer ballot presented formidable candidates such as Ray Fox, Harry Hyde, Banjo Matthews, and Harb Nab, each with significant contributions to the sport’s early development.

Kevin Harvick’s induction marks the culmination of a storied career that saw him crowned the 2014 NASCAR Cup Series champion. His impressive record includes two Busch Series championships and a remarkable 60 victories at the sport’s highest level. Among his most iconic wins are the 2007 Daytona 500, three Coca-Cola 600 triumphs, two Southern 500 victories, and three prestigious Brickyard 400 titles. Harvick’s entry into the Cup Series with Richard Childress Racing was under the shadow of tragedy, taking over the iconic No. 3 seat following the untimely death of Dale Earnhardt Sr. in the 2001 Daytona 500. His career trajectory continued with a highly successful tenure at Stewart-Haas Racing, beginning in 2014, the same year he clinched his championship. Paired with crew chief Rodney Childers, Harvick remained a consistent frontrunner and prolific winner until his retirement from full-time competition in 2023.
