Nick [Payne, spotter], help me out here, I can’t see." Upon inspection by the 23XI Racing pit crew, it was discovered that both the radiator and oil cooler had sustained significant damage, bearing holes punched directly through them. The answer, as revealed through analysis of onboard camera footage and photographic evidence, pointed to an unlikely culprit: a stay from a rear diffuser.

The most plausible explanation for the presence of this diffuser stay on the track and its subsequent impact with Reddick’s car traces back to an earlier caution period. Approximately 40 laps prior to Reddick’s issue, Kyle Larson, driving the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet, spun. During his recovery, Larson’s diffuser reportedly scraped along the frontstretch apron. It is theorized that the damaged diffuser, or a component thereof, dislodged and remained on the track. When Reddick entered Turn 1, his car appears to have encountered this errant piece of debris, leading to the critical damage.

Despite the allowance for repairs, the time lost in the garage proved substantial. Reddick spent approximately 30 laps undergoing the necessary work, rejoining the race but with no realistic chance of contending for a competitive finish. He ultimately crossed the finish line in 36th position.
