SEPANG, MALAYSIA – Swiss Moto3 rider Noah Dettwiler is showing positive signs of recovery after a harrowing incident at the Sepang International Circuit, where he was involved in a significant crash before the start of the Malaysian Grand Prix.
Dettwiler, representing CIP Green Power, was initially reported to be in critical condition following the incident on Sunday, but recent updates indicate a marked improvement. In a statement released via social media, the team confirmed that Dettwiler has made progress after undergoing multiple surgeries in Kuala Lumpur on Monday. While he remains in the intensive care unit (ICU) for continued monitoring, doctors have assessed his condition as stable and no longer critical.
"According to the doctors, Noah’s condition is now stable and no longer critical," the joint statement from CIP Green Power and Dettwiler’s family read. "He will continue to be monitored closely in the intensive care unit. Thank you for all your continued support and kindness."
The incident occurred during the sighting lap ahead of the Moto3 race. Dettwiler’s bike reportedly experienced a technical malfunction, causing him to slow down as he exited Turn 3. An unsighted Jose Antonio Rueda, riding for Red Bull KTM Ajo, collided with Dettwiler’s rear at high speed on the straight leading to Turn 4.

Both riders were immediately attended to by trackside medical personnel and subsequently airlifted to a local hospital for comprehensive treatment.

The Ajo team also provided additional details on Rueda’s treatment, explaining that he was transferred to a private hospital to closely monitor bruising on his lungs. Doctors believe he is now stable enough to travel back to Spain for surgery in Barcelona.
"On Monday, the Red Bull KTM Ajo rider was transferred to a private hospital to continue his recovery and to monitor the bruising on his lungs more closely, which are recovering well," the team added. "As a result, doctors believe it is possible for him to return to Spain tomorrow to undergo surgery on his right hand in Barcelona in the coming days."
The team also extended their support to Noah Dettwiler, emphasizing the solidarity within the racing community. "On the other hand, the entire Red Bull KTM Ajo team would like to send all our strength to Noah Dettwiler as well as his family and friends during his recovery process. We hope to see you soon."
