San Diego, CA – The highly anticipated NASCAR triple-header weekend at Naval Base Coronado is set to ignite the circuits this Friday through Sunday, with the official entry lists for all three national series – the Cup Series, O’Reilly Auto Parts Series (Xfinity), and Craftsman Truck Series – now finalized. This marks a momentous occasion as the historic naval installation transforms into a temporary racetrack, hosting a NASCAR event for the very first time. A total of 39 Cup Series entries, 37 O’Reilly Auto Parts Series entries, and 35 Craftsman Truck Series entries are slated to compete on the challenging 3.4-mile street course.
The NASCAR Cup Series will headline the weekend with the ‘Anduril 250’. Alongside the 36 chartered teams, 23XI Racing will field a potent fourth entry with rising star Corey Heim piloting the No. 67. Adding significant star power, Trackhouse Racing is resurrecting its Project 91 initiative, bringing former Formula 1 driver Kevin Magnussen to the Cup Series for his debut in the No. 91 Chevrolet. Further bolstering the star-studded lineup, Legacy Motor Club, co-owned by seven-time Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson, will enter a third car, the No. 84, with Johnson himself behind the wheel for his hometown race.
A notable rule for this season stipulates that full-time drivers are generally prohibited from participating in multiple series races, an exception being made for Austin Hill. Hill, who currently drives for Richard Childress Racing (RCR) in the Cup Series, will also compete in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series due to tragic circumstances impacting the team. Part-time drivers, however, are permitted to cross between divisions, a flexibility leveraged by Jimmie Johnson. In addition to his Cup Series appearance, Johnson will also compete in the Craftsman Truck Series race with TRICON Garage, marking his first foray into the series since 2008.
Adding a unique local flavor to the proceedings, Jesse Iwuji, an officer in the United States Navy Reserves, will make his first O’Reilly Auto Parts Series start of the year. His participation underscores the special connection between this event and the military community.
