Stanley, North Carolina – The NASCAR community is reeling from the devastating loss of Dennis Hamlin, the father of veteran NASCAR Cup Series driver Denny Hamlin, who died Sunday evening in a house fire at his Stanley, North Carolina residence. Dennis Hamlin was 75 years old.
The blaze erupted at the home he shared with his wife, MaryLou Hamlin, 69. First responders from the Lucia-Riverbend Fire Department arrived to find approximately 45 percent of the structure already engulfed in flames. Both Dennis and MaryLou Hamlin were outside the burning home when emergency crews reached the scene.
Both individuals were subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment. Gaston County EMS confirmed on Monday night that Dennis Hamlin had succumbed to his injuries. MaryLou Hamlin, meanwhile, was transferred to the Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Burn Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where she remains under active treatment and is listed in critical condition.
A statement released by Gaston County EMS indicated that both Hamlins sustained "catastrophic injuries while escaping the flames." The investigation into the precise cause of the fire is ongoing, with officials citing significant structural damage and the collapse of portions of the home as factors complicating the inquiry. The cause of the fire remains undetermined at this time.

The property where the tragedy occurred is owned by Denny Hamlin through his real estate entity, Won One Real Estate. The 3,724-square-foot home was constructed in 2015.
