Garrett Mitchell, the popular online personality operating under the moniker Cleetus McFarland, has revealed that the tragic passing of NASCAR legend Greg Biffle led him to seriously contemplate abandoning his nascent stock car racing career. Biffle, who had become a close friend and mentor to Mitchell over the past 18 months, was among seven individuals who perished in a devastating plane crash in Statesville, North Carolina, in December. The group had been en route to meet Mitchell in Florida at the time of the accident.
In a recently published video, Mitchell, who embarked on his ARCA Menards Series journey last year, shared the profound impact of Biffle’s death on his aspirations within the sport. "Greg Biffle, my mentor, passed away last month, so things are going to be a lot different," Mitchell stated in the video. "I’ll admit to you guys that a month ago when everything happened, I didn’t want to ever step foot in a NASCAR garage again. I didn’t want to race."
However, after a period of reflection, Mitchell has found renewed determination, drawing inspiration from the legacy of his late mentor. "Now that some time has passed, I have realized what would The Biff want," Mitchell explained. "He would want me to continue racing and trying to climb the ladder in NASCAR."
The ambitious goal of competing in the Daytona 500, NASCAR’s premier event, was a shared ambition between Mitchell and Biffle. Mitchell recalled their initial conversations about his racing aspirations. "When Biff and I originally talked about racing NASCAR, I told him I wanted to race the Daytona 500," Mitchell recounted. "He kind of politely told me that that’s not gonna happen without doing some serious work, so we started a plan of getting to the Daytona 500."
