Collazo Defends Unified Strawweight Titles Against Vayson in California Doubleheader

INDIO, California – Unified strawweight champion Oscar Collazo is set to defend his WBO and WBA titles against Jayson Vayson in the main event of a championship boxing doubleheader at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California, this weekend. The card also features undisputed flyweight champion Gabriela Fundora defending her belts against Alexas Kubicki.

Collazo (12-0, 9 KOs), a Puerto Rican native, turned professional in 2020 after a noteworthy amateur career. He quickly ascended the ranks, capturing the WBO title in only his seventh professional fight with a stoppage victory over Melvin Jerusalem. This victory has since gained further significance, as Jerusalem went on to win the WBC title two fights later and has successfully defended it twice.

The 27-year-old Collazo has been a dominant force in the strawweight division. After three successful defenses of his WBO title, he unified the division by adding the WBA strap to his collection with a comprehensive victory over Knockout CP Freshmart in November 2024. The 22-year-old Fundora continued her impressive run by unifying the flyweight division in November 2024, defeating Gabriela Celeste Alaniz via a seventh-round TKO to claim the WBA, WBO, and WBC belts. She has since defended her undisputed status once, with another seventh-round stoppage victory over Marilyn Badillo Amaya in April. Fundora’s aggressive style and relentless pressure have made her a difficult opponent for any flyweight.

Kubicki (13-1, 2 KOs), a Canadian fighter, steps in as a late replacement for Fundora’s original opponent, Ayelen Granadino, who was unable to secure a visa to enter the United States. The 33-year-old Kubicki enters the fight riding a seven-fight winning streak. However, none of her opponents have been at the level of Fundora.
