Valencia, Spain – Marco Bezzecchi, the Italian MotoGP rider, capped off his season with a masterful victory at the Valencia Grand Prix, adding a touch of theatrics to the celebrations by humorously "proposing" to the Aprilia RS-GP that carried him to the win. This celebratory gesture followed a season-long wager with Aprilia Racing CEO Massimo Rivola, where Bezzecchi’s third victory of the year earned him ownership of the race-winning machine.
The 27-year-old rider, known for his charismatic personality and on-track prowess, elaborated on the bet that fueled his performance throughout the season. "I won this bike in a bet with Massimo," Bezzecchi explained post-race. "I told him that if I was able to win three races, then the bike was coming home. And I won the bike – so I had to ask her if she wanted to marry me. And fortunately, she said ‘yes.’"
Bezzecchi’s win in Valencia marked a significant achievement for the Aprilia Racing team, which saw a strong showing throughout the weekend. The victory, coupled with a second-place finish for teammate Augusto Fernandez, underscored the competitiveness of the Aprilia bike and the team’s development over the course of the 2023 season.
The "proposal" on the victory lap echoed the playful celebrations often seen by fellow Italian rider Valentino Rossi, a MotoGP legend known for his extravagant post-race antics. Bezzecchi’s gesture, while lighthearted, symbolized his appreciation for the machinery that propelled him to victory and the successful culmination of his bet with Rivola.
