Kansas City, Mo. – Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce has indicated he is considering extending his illustrious career beyond the upcoming 2025 season, leaving the door open for a potential return in 2026 and beyond. The future of the 36-year-old, a cornerstone of the Chiefs’ dynastic success, remains a significant point of discussion as he approaches the final year of his current contract. Kelce, who currently leads the Chiefs in multiple receiving categories, emphasized his commitment to making a timely decision to allow the organization ample planning flexibility.
Kelce articulated his intention to finalize his decision regarding his playing future by early March, aligning with the onset of NFL free agency and the run-up to the NFL Draft. This proactive approach aims to provide the Chiefs’ front office with clarity, enabling them to make informed decisions regarding roster construction, potential draft targets, and salary cap management. "I want to give the Chiefs a good opportunity, whether I come back or not — or whether they want me back or not," Kelce stated. "I’d like to make that decision before they’ve got to get draft picks and free agency opens to fill the roster appropriately. All that will be at the end of the season. I won’t be thinking about it until then."

"I think what you’re seeing is I’m a product of my environment right now," Kelce said, acknowledging the collective effort. "Everything is predicated off of how the offensive line does and how the guys around us do and, obviously, the chemistry me and [Patrick Mahomes] have been able to accumulate over the years."
