Tyler Reddick Dominates Circuit of the Americas to Secure Unprecedented Third Consecutive Season Opening Victory

Austin, Texas – Tyler Reddick has etched his name into NASCAR history, capturing his third consecutive victory to commence the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season with a commanding performance at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA). The 23XI Racing driver fended off a determined challenge from Supercars champion Shane van Gisbergen, crossing the finish line approximately four seconds ahead of the New Zealander to secure a historic achievement.

This remarkable streak marks Reddick as the first driver in the storied history of NASCAR to win the initial three races of a new season, a feat that began with the iconic Daytona 500, followed by a victory at Atlanta Motor Speedway, and now culminates at the challenging COTA road course. His triumph also propels his team, 23XI Racing, co-owned by basketball legend Michael Jordan and NASCAR veteran Denny Hamlin, into the record books. The organization becomes the first team to win the opening three races of a season since Petty Enterprises accomplished the feat in 1963, a testament to their early-season dominance.

Reddick’s performance at COTA not only extends his perfect start to 2026 but also solidifies his commanding position atop the championship standings. The victory represents a significant personal milestone for Reddick, who has openly expressed a desire to excel on road courses.

“It means the world,” Reddick stated in the post-race press conference, his voice reflecting a mix of elation and pride. “It’s so fitting. We got going at the end of the race, I’m leading and there’s SVG – the guy I’ve been trying to beat for a while now. To be able to outlast him there and hold on for the win is just incredible. Just really proud of everyone on 23XI. We worked very hard, and we did not like getting beat like that at road courses. It’s one race, but it’s so important, so fitting to be able to get three in-a-row and make history.”

The strong showing from Shane van Gisbergen, making a significant impact in his Cup Series campaign, highlights the international talent continuing to make their mark in NASCAR. The three-time Supercars champion demonstrated his road-racing prowess throughout the event, consistently running at the front and challenging Reddick for supremacy.

Following Reddick and van Gisbergen across the line was a competitive field of Cup Series regulars. Christopher Bell secured a solid third-place finish, followed by his 23XI Racing teammate Ty Gibbs in fourth. Veteran Michael McDowell rounded out the top five, continuing his reputation as a consistent performer on road courses. The remainder of the top ten included Kyle Larson, Chase Elliott, Ryan Blaney, AJ Allmendinger, and Denny Hamlin, underscoring the depth of talent and competition within the series.

The race at the 3.41-mile road course was characterized by strategic pit stops, several on-track incidents, and a compelling duel for the lead in the closing laps.

Stage 1:
The opening stage saw an early lead change as Cole Custer took an aggressive three-wide move into Turn 1, briefly holding the advantage. The field navigated the initial laps cleanly, with Ryan Blaney, who had shown strong long-run speed in practice sessions, steadily closing the gap on Custer. Blaney eventually took the lead and began to build a significant gap over the pursuing pack.

Meanwhile, Shane van Gisbergen, starting from 13th, showcased his adaptability by carving his way through the field, climbing to third position by the closing stages of the segment. As the checkered flag for Stage 1 approached, several drivers opted for alternative pit strategies, sacrificing potential stage points in favor of track position for the subsequent stages. Blaney was among those who pitted, relinquishing the lead and allowing Ross Chastain to secure the stage victory. Chastain was followed by his teammate van Gisbergen in second, with Michael McDowell, Chris Buescher, AJ Allmendinger, Ty Gibbs, Alex Bowman, Chase Elliott, Carson Hocevar, and Denny Hamlin completing the top ten.

Stage 2:
Ryan Blaney reclaimed the lead as the rest of the field cycled through pit stops, with van Gisbergen leading the outbound pit lane traffic. Ross Chastain experienced a setback during his pit stop, losing five positions due to a brief stall of his No. 1 Chevrolet.

Van Gisbergen restarted Stage 2 in 15th position, but with a slight advantage in tire life compared to the cars ahead of him. The restart was marred by an incident involving Josh Williams, who spun through Turn 1 after contact from Daniel Suarez. Shortly thereafter, Noah Gragson also spun between Turns 6a and 6b, necessitating a caution flag.

At the front of the field, Tyler Reddick seized control of the race, taking the lead for the first time since starting from the pole. He maintained his position until pitting with three laps remaining in the stage, strategically positioning himself for the overall race victory. Josh Berry also spun mid-pack without triggering a full-course caution, demonstrating the fluid nature of the racing.

During the pit stop sequence, Alex Bowman received a pass-through penalty for an uncontrolled tire, while Austin Dillon faced a prolonged pit stop due to a broken shifter. With the majority of the leading contenders diving onto pit road, Ty Gibbs inherited the lead and went on to win the stage. He was followed by AJ Allmendinger, Daniel Suarez, Todd Gilliland, Tyler Reddick, Bubba Wallace, Ryan Blaney, Chase Briscoe, William Byron, and Shane van Gisbergen.

Stage 3:
Tyler Reddick held the lead at the outset of the final stage, with Ryan Blaney in close pursuit. Shane van Gisbergen slotted into fifth place on the restart. Further back in the field, Erik Jones spun but was able to continue without intervention.

In a heated battle for position within the top ten, Kyle Larson and Christopher Bell engaged in a fierce back-and-forth exchange. The race saw another significant development when Chase Briscoe abruptly slowed with 32 laps remaining, reporting a mechanical failure in his rear-end assembly. Briscoe, who had been running in the top five, became the first car to retire to the garage.

Reddick pitted from the lead with 26 laps to go, followed shortly by Blaney. Van Gisbergen pitted one lap later, joining the strategic race for track position. The complexion of the race shifted dramatically when Ross Chastain spun off track due to a loose wheel that had become disconnected. This incident prompted NASCAR to deploy a caution flag, and Chastain’s No. 1 Chevrolet was held for two laps, with additional penalties anticipated for the Hendrick Motorsports driver in the following week.

During the ensuing caution period, a select group of drivers, including Reddick, Blaney, van Gisbergen, and Josh Williams, opted to remain on track with older tires, while others pitted for fresh rubber. In a separate development, Alex Bowman exited his No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet due to illness, with Myatt Snider taking over driving duties for the remainder of the race.

On the restart, Shane van Gisbergen successfully moved past Ryan Blaney to claim second position. However, his teammate Josh Williams spun once again in Turn 1, and Zane Smith was also caught up in the incident. Further back, Kyle Busch made contact with his teammate Jesse Love, resulting in an incident that sent Chris Buescher spinning at the exit of the final corner.

With fresher tires, Christopher Bell made a determined charge to third place. However, the focus remained on the lead battle between Shane van Gisbergen and Tyler Reddick. Despite closing the gap, van Gisbergen was unable to mount a sustained challenge for the lead. Reddick, in his No. 45 23XI Racing Toyota, steadily pulled away, driving towards a historic victory.

The race concluded under green flag conditions, despite Carson Hocevar spinning on the final lap, costing him several positions. Tyler Reddick’s flawless execution and the strong performance of 23XI Racing have set a new benchmark for season openings in the NASCAR Cup Series, signaling a formidable start to their 2026 campaign.
