DARLINGTON, S.C. – In a NASCAR Cup Series season that has defied expectations of parity, driver Tyler Reddick and the No. 45 team at 23XI Racing have embarked on a remarkable run of success, securing four victories in the first six races. This early-season dominance, particularly following the introduction of the Next Gen car in 2022, which was intended to foster closer competition, has positioned Reddick and his team as formidable championship contenders.
The recent victory at Darlington Raceway marked Reddick’s fourth win of the season, adding to earlier triumphs at Daytona International Speedway (Daytona 500), Atlanta Motor Speedway, and Circuit of the Americas (COTA). The variety of track types where these wins have occurred – a superspeedway, a superintermediate, a road course, and the unique Darlington oval – suggests a well-rounded performance rather than a series of fortunate circumstances.
"I mean, some of it is you look at the places we’ve won, in my opinion, where we’ve been very strong at (Atlanta); we won there," Reddick commented following his Darlington victory. "COTA has been a track over the years that I’ve been very, very strong at, so we won there. Then in Darlington, you know, this is a place that of all the tracks that we go to that I’m the best at in my opinion, even more so than Homestead or even Charlotte or some of these other places where I can get it going."
Reddick elaborated on his team’s capability to capitalize on strong performances, stating, "Yeah, I mean, it’s just a matter of the tracks that I’m really strong at and our cars are really strong at. We’ve just this year been capitalizing on it and getting the wins."

The driver also expressed optimism about the team’s prospects on tracks where they have historically performed well, citing upcoming races. "I was sad to see the ROVAL go but now we have two Charlotte oval dates, so that’s awesome," Reddick said. "We’re going back to Chicagoland, and last time I was really strong in an O’Reilly Auto Parts car. There’s a lot of tracks on the schedule that we have been really, really strong at, and you got to see that in 2024 with how we were able to put races together."
His confidence is tempered with a week-to-week approach: "If we can keep this up, who knows? I’m just going to take it one week at a time."
The Darlington victory was particularly noteworthy for the adversity the No. 45 team overcame. Within the first lap of the race, Reddick bottomed out, damaging his alternator and forcing him to compete for the remainder of the event without a cooling mechanism for his car. Despite this significant handicap, Reddick had to navigate through the field during the second stage to contend for the win.
"We kind of got to that difficult point in stage three where we either take it safe and come back down and change the battery again, but give up all our track position, or we stay and basically cut every last thing off that I had running to keep me cool," Reddick explained. "So, the final 100 laps were brutally hot. When Billy asked me if I was willing to stay and keep everything off, I was all-in because I really, really wanted to win here. With the car as good as we had today, I was willing to take that risk, you know? I just fought through the heat, fought through those things to win the race."
This string of victories has propelled Reddick and 23XI Racing to a substantial 95-point lead in the championship standings over second-place Ryan Blaney. This advantage is equivalent to roughly a race and a half, a crucial buffer as the season progresses towards the playoffs, where the regular-season champion earns a 25-point bonus. Reddick humorously acknowledged the significance of this lead, stating, "That’s badass."
The remarkable start to the season represents a dream scenario for 23XI Racing co-owners Denny Hamlin and Michael Jordan. Hamlin, a seasoned competitor and team owner, acknowledged the exceptional nature of this early success. "I mean, it was a dream, but it’s hard," Hamlin said. "Even legacy teams dream of starts like this. For a start-up team (when you) think about it, it’s probably a little pie in the sky, but it all comes together."
Hamlin attributed the team’s success to a consistent focus on building a strong organization. "I mean, eventually you just keep putting really good people together, and you’re going to have these type of results," he stated. "Again, I think this was the most impressive weekend I’ve seen from 23XI, because everyone came in here with so many unknowns, and they figured out the Rubik’s Cube before everyone else.”
Despite the team’s overwhelming success, Hamlin identified short tracks as the organization’s remaining area for improvement, a challenge that awaits them at Martinsville Speedway in the upcoming race. Reddick’s response to this prospect was characteristically ambitious: "If I can win there, oh, my gosh, the world is going to end."
The early-season performance of Tyler Reddick and 23XI Racing has not only secured significant points but has also challenged the prevailing notion of parity in the Next Gen era. Their ability to win across diverse track configurations and overcome adversity in the recent Darlington event highlights a potent combination of driver skill, crew chief strategy, and engineering prowess. As the NASCAR Cup Series season unfolds, all eyes will be on the No. 45 team to see if this "dream run" can translate into a championship bid.
