Thirteen-Year-Old Keelan Harvick Makes History with Unprecedented Snowflake 125 Triumph

PENSACOLA, FL – In a stunning display of precocious talent, 13-year-old Keelan Harvick etched his name into the motorsport record books, becoming the youngest-ever winner of the prestigious Snowflake 125 Pro Late Model race. The remarkable victory, achieved in his debut appearance at the event, unfolded in the early hours of Sunday morning at Five Flags Speedway, following a race that commenced well past midnight.

The Snowflake 125, a highly anticipated prelude to the even more renowned Snowball Derby, saw its green flag wave around 1:30 AM local time. Pole sitter Luke Baldwin led the field to start, but the narrative of the night quickly shifted to the remarkable ascent of young Harvick. Starting a challenging 15th on the grid, Harvick, son of NASCAR Cup Series champion Kevin Harvick, navigated the intensely competitive field with a maturity far beyond his years.

By Lap 40, Harvick had already maneuvered his No. 62 machine into the top five, demonstrating consistent pace and strategic prowess. The early stages of the race saw Kaden Honeycutt, the reigning Snowball Derby champion, establishing a dominant presence, holding the lead until the designated halfway race break at Lap 75.

Following the break, the race intensified. Harvick executed a daring outside pass on Honeycutt during a restart to reclaim the lead, only to momentarily slip back to fourth on the subsequent restart. This minor setback, however, proved to be a transient blip. Harvick later attributed the momentary lapse to an accidental engagement of second gear, which momentarily bogged down his engine. Undeterred, he swiftly recovered, regaining lost momentum and rejoining the battle at the front of the pack.

With just 25 laps remaining, the lead was held by 15-year-old Tristan McKee, a driver who had recently made headlines with a debut ARCA race victory. Harvick, however, was not to be denied. He mounted another charge, diving to the inside of McKee and seizing the lead once more. This time, he held firm, fending off challenges and navigating a final late-race restart to secure the checkered flag. The historic win was clinched around 4:30 AM on Sunday, capping a marathon night of racing.

In the immediate aftermath of his victory, Harvick expressed his elation to Flo Racing. "It’s really cool," he stated. "They brought me a really fast car. Not much practice. We didn’t come down here and test. I had school, but we came down here and made it work."

The significance of the win extended beyond just claiming a trophy. Harvick emphasized the importance of earning respect from his more experienced competitors. "It’s just big on earning respect from all of the veterans that are in the field," he remarked. "There’s a lot of them that come to that race. Pretty much all of them. It’s just really cool that I get to earn their respect, racing clean, actually passing and not just running over people."

A notable moment during the halfway break involved a brief interaction with his father, Kevin Harvick. The elder Harvick, a legendary figure in stock car racing, passed a note to his son in the car. When asked about the message, Keelan recounted with a smile, "I’m honestly not sure. His handwriting is pretty bad and all the ink just smeared together. I think it was something about partial throttle, but his handwriting is not that good so I’m not sure." This anecdote highlights the blend of professional guidance and familial support that underpins Keelan’s burgeoning career.

The Snowflake 125 podium was rounded out by Tristan McKee in second place and Kaden Honeycutt in third. Isaac Kitzmiller secured fourth, with Luke Baldwin completing the top five. The remainder of the top ten finishers included Luke Yarborough, Jimmy Renfrew Jr., Gabe Brown, Evan Szotko, and Conner Jones, all demonstrating strong performances in a highly competitive field.

Keelan Harvick’s victory at the Snowflake 125 is a significant milestone, not only for the driver but also for the sport.
