Darlington Raceway, SC – Tyler Reddick, piloting the No. 45 for 23XI Racing, delivered a masterclass performance at Darlington Raceway, securing his fourth victory in the opening six races of the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season. The win extends Reddick’s championship lead to a commanding 95 points, a remarkable feat in the current era of heightened competition and parity within the sport. This latest triumph marks a significant milestone, with 33% of Reddick’s 12 career wins occurring within the last two months, showcasing an unprecedented streak of form.
The race, however, was far from a straightforward affair for the eventual winner. Reddick battled through a series of significant technical setbacks, including a failing cool suit, electrical gremlins, a slow pit stop that necessitated a battery change, and even an incident in the closing 50 laps. Despite these challenges, his resilience and the consistent pace of the No. 45 Toyota allowed him to reclaim the lead and secure the victory, reaffirming his status as the early season favorite.
While 23XI Racing celebrated a stellar day, the performance spectrum within the Cup Series revealed notable shifts. RFK Racing and Spire Motorsports demonstrated impressive pace, turning heads and challenging established titans. Conversely, powerhouse organizations like Hendrick Motorsports (HMS) and Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) experienced a more subdued outing, struggling to match the frontrunners.
On the other side of the 23XI Racing garage, Bubba Wallace endured a frustrating afternoon. Wallace, who started on the front row, showed strong potential for a win early in the race. However, an unusual pit stop, where he was instructed to back up to ensure wheel security, dropped him into the midfield. He began to charge through the field but found himself caught in a lap 150 incident involving Erik Jones and his team owner, Denny Hamlin. Wallace had nowhere to evade, making contact with Hamlin and subsequently the outside wall, which compromised his car’s alignment. He finished the race a disappointing 34th, five laps down, a stark contrast to his teammate’s dominant performance.

The revised aerodynamic package, featuring increased horsepower and softer Goodyear tires, appears to be yielding positive results in terms of on-track action. Drivers reported an improved ability to make passes and maintain momentum, suggesting a step in the right direction for the series’ competition. Ryan Blaney of Team Penske commented on the improved racing characteristics, noting, "This is like the first time I think in my Cup career that I would let a guy go, like a few laps into a restart if he’s hounding me or come off pit road and I said to myself, ‘I’ll see you in about 20 laps’ and that happened." This sentiment was echoed by many drivers, indicating a more engaging spectacle for the fans.
The day also proved challenging for three-time series champion Joey Logano of Team Penske. Logano struggled from the outset, unable to find pace or make significant gains throughout the race. He expressed his team’s bewilderment at the car’s performance, stating it was "so far off" and he didn’t know how to help them improve it. Logano finished 33rd, three laps down, and consequently dropped five positions in the championship standings, finding himself on the playoff bubble.
In a remarkable display of upward mobility, Spire Motorsports continued its impressive 2026 campaign. Carson Hocevar, driving the No. 77 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet, staged a remarkable recovery, driving from the rear of the field to secure a fourth-place finish. Teammate Daniel Suarez also had a strong run, finishing seventh. This performance outpaced the top Hendrick Motorsports entry, with William Byron finishing eighth, highlighting Spire’s growing competitiveness.
Late-race contact between Kyle Larson of Hendrick Motorsports and Chase Briscoe of Joe Gibbs Racing resulted in significant point losses for both drivers. Briscoe, who was running in the top five, was collected in an incident with a slower car and subsequently faded to 12th. Larson, who was running in the vicinity of 11th or 12th, slid into the wall, damaging his car’s toe-link and plummeting to 32nd place, losing valuable points due to an unforced error.
RFK Racing showcased its revitalized form with a strong performance at Darlington. At one point, the team’s Fords occupied the top three positions, demonstrating the significant progress made since their winless 2025 season. Brad Keselowski captured both stages and finished a strong second, while Chris Buescher was in contention before a late-race incident relegated him to ninth. Ryan Preece also displayed competitive pace, running in the top five for a substantial portion of the race before finishing 13th.
Richard Childress Racing (RCR) found their strong qualifying efforts unable to translate into race-day success. Both Kyle Busch and Austin Dillon, who qualified inside the top ten, struggled during the 400-mile event. Busch finished 21st and Dillon 25th, marking another disappointing race for a team that had shown promise in practice and qualifying. This performance also casts a spotlight on Chevrolet’s overall competitiveness with its updated ZL1 body, as RCR, a key manufacturer partner, seeks to unlock more performance.
The 37-car field saw 36 cars finish the race, with only one incident causing significant disruption in the closing laps. Despite the relatively clean race, the competitive landscape continues to shift, with established powerhouses facing new challenges from emerging contenders. The upcoming schedule will reveal whether Reddick’s dominant start is a sign of a long championship run or if other teams can close the gap.
