Both Dennis and MaryLou Hamlin were found outside the burning residence. They were promptly transported to a nearby hospital.
Gaston County EMS confirmed Dennis Hamlin’s passing on Monday night. A statement released by the EMS indicated that both Dennis and MaryLou "suffered catastrophic injuries while escaping the flames." The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Officials have cited extensive structural damage and the collapse of the home as factors complicating the inquiry, leaving the origin of the blaze undetermined at this time.
The property where the fire occurred is owned by Denny Hamlin through his real estate entity, Won One Real Estate. The house, a 3,724-square-foot structure, was built in 2015.
