Stanley, North Carolina – The motorsports world is in mourning following the death of Dennis Hamlin, the father of decorated NASCAR Cup Series driver Denny Hamlin, who succumbed to injuries sustained in a devastating house fire on Sunday evening. He was 75 years old.
The blaze erupted at the Stanley, North Carolina, residence shared by Dennis and his wife, MaryLou, who also suffered severe injuries. First responders from the Lucia-Riverbend Fire Department arrived to find approximately 45 percent of the home engulfed in flames. Both Dennis and MaryLou were outside the burning structure when emergency crews reached the scene.
Both Hamlins were immediately transported to a local hospital. By Monday night, the Gaston County EMS confirmed Dennis’s passing. MaryLou, 69, was subsequently transferred to the Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Burn Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where she is reportedly in critical condition and receiving active treatment.
A statement released by Gaston County EMS indicated that both individuals sustained "catastrophic injuries while escaping the flames." The investigation into the precise cause of the fire is ongoing, with officials citing significant structural damage and the collapse of the home as factors complicating the inquiry.

The property where the tragedy occurred is registered under the name of Denny Hamlin through his real estate entity, Won One Real Estate. The 3,724-square-foot residence was constructed in 2015.
