Pensacola, Florida – In a captivating display of youthful talent and seasoned determination, 13-year-old Keelan Harvick has achieved a monumental feat in the world of short-track racing, becoming the youngest winner in the 125-lap Pro Late Model event’s history. The remarkable victory came in Harvick’s debut appearance at the prestigious Snowflake 125, held late into the night at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida.
The race, a highly anticipated fixture on the short-track calendar, commenced under the cloak of darkness, with the green flag waving around 1:30 AM local time on Sunday morning. The starting grid saw Luke Baldwin positioned on pole, setting the initial pace. Harvick, the son of 2014 NASCAR Cup Series champion Kevin Harvick, faced a significant challenge, beginning the grueling 125-lap event from the 15th starting position. However, his journey through the field was a testament to his burgeoning skill, as he methodically navigated through the competitive field.
By lap 40, Harvick had already maneuvered his No. 62 machine into the top five. The early and middle stages of the race were largely dominated by Kaden Honeycutt, the reigning champion of the Snowball Derby, an event that immediately follows the Snowflake 125. Honeycutt maintained a strong hold on the lead until the designated race break at lap 75.
Following the break, the strategic battles intensified. On a pivotal restart, Harvick executed a daring outside pass on Honeycutt to seize the lead. However, the momentum proved momentarily elusive, as he subsequently fell back to fourth position on the ensuing restart. Harvick later attributed this setback to an inadvertent shift into second gear, which momentarily bogged down his engine’s performance. Undeterred by the temporary loss of position, he swiftly regrouped, regaining lost ground and re-establishing his presence at the forefront of the pack.

With the checkered flag within sight and only 25 laps remaining, 15-year-old Tristan McKee, who had demonstrated impressive form throughout the race, was leading the charge. McKee, a driver who has already garnered attention with an ARCA race win in his debut earlier this year, found himself under pressure from Harvick. In a decisive maneuver, Harvick dove to the inside of McKee, successfully executing a pass and reclaiming the lead. This time, he held on with unwavering resolve, navigating a final, tense restart to secure the victory shortly before 4:30 AM on Sunday morning.
In the immediate aftermath of his historic win, a jubilant Keelan Harvick spoke with Flo Racing, expressing his elation. "It’s really cool," he stated. "They brought me a really fast car. Not much practice. We didn’t come down here and test. I had school, but we came down here and made it work."
Reflecting on the significance of the victory, Harvick emphasized the importance of earning respect within the highly competitive short-track community. "It’s just big on earning respect from all of the veterans that are in the field," he explained. "There’s a lot of them that come to that race. Pretty much all of them. It’s just really cool that I get to earn their respect, racing clean, actually passing and not just running over people." This sentiment underscores a maturity beyond his years, highlighting a commitment to clean racing and sportsmanlike conduct.
A notable moment during the halfway break involved a brief interaction with his father, NASCAR legend Kevin Harvick. The elder Harvick reportedly passed his son a note in the car. When questioned about the content of his father’s message, Keelan Harvick responded with a characteristic grin, admitting, "I’m honestly not sure. His handwriting is pretty bad and all the ink just smeared together. I think it was something about partial throttle, but his handwriting is not that good so I’m not sure." This lighthearted anecdote provided a glimpse into the father-son dynamic amidst the high-stakes racing environment.
The Snowflake 125 concluded with Tristan McKee securing a commendable second-place finish, followed by Kaden Honeycutt in third. Isaac Kitzmiller claimed fourth position, with Luke Baldwin rounding out the top five. The remainder of the top ten finishers included Luke Yarborough, Jimmy Renfrew Jr., Gabe Brown, Evan Szotko, and Conner Jones, underscoring the depth of talent that competed in this significant event.
The Snowflake 125, held at the iconic Five Flags Speedway, is renowned for its demanding nature and its role as a crucial precursor to the Snowball Derby. The Pro Late Model division represents a vital stepping stone for aspiring stock car racers, offering a platform to hone their skills against seasoned competitors. Harvick’s performance in this challenging environment, especially given his age and limited preparation, positions him as a driver to watch in the future of motorsport. His victory is not merely a personal triumph but a significant marker in the annals of short-track racing history, demonstrating that talent and determination can indeed overcome experience. The implications of this win extend beyond the trophy, as Harvick has undoubtedly garnered the attention and respect of his peers and the wider racing community. His journey through the field, his strategic passes, and his composure under pressure all point towards a promising career ahead.
