INDIO, California – Unified strawweight champion Oscar Collazo is set to defend his WBO and WBA titles against Jayson Vayson in a headlining bout at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California. The event, scheduled for September 20, also features an undercard highlight as undisputed flyweight champion Gabriela Fundora defends her titles against Alexas Kubicki.
Oscar Collazo (12-0, 9 KOs), a Puerto Rican native, turned professional in 2020 after a distinguished amateur career. Collazo quickly ascended the ranks, capturing the WBO strawweight title in just his seventh professional fight by defeating Melvin Jerusalem. Jerusalem’s subsequent success, including winning the WBC title and defending it twice, has validated Collazo’s victory and cemented his status as a top contender.
Collazo’s reign continued with three successful defenses of the WBO title, culminating in a unification bout against Knockout CP Freshmart in November 2024. Collazo dominated Freshmart, ending his nearly decade-long reign as champion and adding the WBA strap to his collection. In his first defense as a unified champion, Collazo faced Edwin Cano in March, winning by TKO with a body shot.
Jayson Vayson (14-1-1, 8 KOs) of the Philippines is stepping up in competition against Collazo. Vayson has competed in weight classes ranging from 105 to 115 pounds and will return to the 105-pound strawweight limit for this title challenge.
Vayson’s most notable victory came against former strawweight champion Ryuya Yamanaka in 2023. However, this win was preceded by his only professional loss, a unanimous decision defeat against Seigo Yuri Akui, where Vayson lost every round on the official scorecards.
In the co-main event, Gabriela Fundora (15-0, 7 KOs) will defend her undisputed flyweight titles against Alexas Kubicki. Fundora, the sister of junior middleweight champion Sebastian Fundora, turned professional in May 2021 and quickly amassed 12 fights in two years. She captured the IBF flyweight title in October 2023 with a fifth-round knockout of Arely Mucino.
Fundora successfully defended her IBF title twice before unifying the division by defeating Gabriela Celeste Alaniz in November 2024 for the WBA, WBO, and WBC belts. She secured a seventh-round TKO victory. Her first defense as the undisputed champion was also a seventh-round stoppage, this time against Marilyn Badillo Amaya in April.
Alexas Kubicki (13-1, 2 KOs), a Canadian fighter, is stepping in as a late replacement for Ayelen Granadino, who was unable to secure a visa to enter the United States. Kubicki enters the fight on a seven-fight winning streak, though she has not faced opponents of Fundora’s caliber.

Fighter Backgrounds and Analysis
Oscar Collazo’s rapid ascent in the strawweight division has been marked by decisive victories and an aggressive fighting style. His win over Melvin Jerusalem, who has since achieved success as a WBC champion, underscores Collazo’s skill and potential. Collazo’s ability to secure stoppages against durable opponents like Knockout CP Freshmart and Edwin Cano demonstrates his power and finishing ability.
Jayson Vayson faces a significant challenge in Collazo. While Vayson’s victory over Ryuya Yamanaka is a notable achievement, his previous loss to Seigo Yuri Akui raises questions about his ability to compete at the highest level. Vayson’s inconsistency in weight classes may also be a factor, as he adjusts to the 105-pound limit for this title fight.
Gabriela Fundora’s dominance in the flyweight division has been impressive. Her ability to secure multiple stoppages against top contenders highlights her power and technical skills. Fundora’s combination of speed, precision, and power makes her a difficult opponent for any flyweight.
Alexas Kubicki, while on a winning streak, has not faced the same level of competition as Fundora. Kubicki’s late replacement status may also impact her preparation for this title fight.
Expert Analysis
Boxing analysts note that Collazo’s aggressive style and power make him a formidable opponent for Vayson. Collazo’s ability to cut off the ring and land damaging body shots could be key to securing a victory.
Fundora’s height and reach advantage, combined with her aggressive style, make her a strong favorite against Kubicki. Fundora’s ability to control the pace of the fight and land accurate punches could lead to another stoppage victory.
Prediction
Collazo is expected to retain his unified strawweight titles against Vayson. His power, aggression, and proven ability to defeat top contenders make him a strong favorite.
Fundora is also expected to defend her undisputed flyweight titles against Kubicki. Her superior skills and experience should allow her to control the fight and secure a victory.
