Mooresville, NC – Spire Motorsports has secured a cornerstone of its future, announcing a significant, multi-year contract extension with promising young driver Carson Hocevar. The agreement, which extends through the 2030s, solidifies Hocevar’s position as the primary driver of the No. 77 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and signals a clear commitment from the organization to build around the 23-year-old talent.
Hocevar, who is in his first full-time season in the NASCAR Cup Series with Spire Motorsports in 2024, has been a driving force behind the team’s ascent. While he is still seeking his maiden victory at the Cup level, his performance statistics underscore his rapid development and competitive potential. In 81 career Cup Series starts, Hocevar has accumulated three top-five finishes and 15 top-ten results. His Cup Series debut also occurred with Spire during the 2023 season, foreshadowing his integral role in the team’s long-term vision.
The recent NASCAR Cup Series Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium served as a recent highlight for Hocevar and Spire Motorsports. He demonstrated strong pace, leading 18 laps before being caught up in a late-race incident that ultimately ended his bid for victory. This performance, despite the outcome, underscored his ability to contend for prominent positions.
Officially recognized as the 2024 NCS Rookie of the Year, Hocevar expressed his enthusiasm and satisfaction with the long-term commitment. “I love to race, and there’s really no place better to race than here,” Hocevar stated. “This shows we’re all committed and eager to race with each other for a long time.”

His sentiment extended beyond the competitive aspect, emphasizing the strong interpersonal relationships within the Spire Motorsports organization. “I think of Jeff (Dickerson) as a father figure, but the same could be said for Luke (Lambert, crew chief), Tyler (Green, spotter), Bill (Anthony, Spire Motorsports’ president) and all the No. 77 guys. Everyone in the building has really become a family to me,” Hocevar added. He further elaborated on the team’s evolution: “Spire is such a different team now compared to how it was my rookie season, and especially when I made my debut in 2023. It’s fun to know I’m going to be around the Cup garage for a long time, and really a dream come true.”
In addition to his Cup Series commitments, the contract extension includes provisions for Hocevar to compete in 13 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series races for Spire Motorsports during the current season. This dual involvement allows him to maintain a strong presence across multiple NASCAR national series, further honing his skills and contributing to the team’s broader racing program.
Jeff Dickerson, co-owner of Spire Motorsports, articulated the significance of the extension for the organization. “It’s a pretty big moment for our company to announce an extension with Carson (Hocevar) that takes us out for multiple years,” Dickerson commented. “It’s not just about knowing he’ll be here with us for the long haul, but it gives our sponsors and competition group the foresight to make their own plans knowing he’s in the seat of the No. 77 as far as we can see.”
Dickerson also shared a personal perspective on Hocevar’s tenure with the team. “It has been an absolutely rewarding experience getting to know Carson and watching him grow up, and learn from the good and bad both at and away from the racetrack. I love him like a son, and it means a great deal to me, personally, knowing he’ll be here for several years.” His remarks concluded with a touch of characteristic humor, noting the potential impact on his health, "I expect this announcement could test the effectiveness of my blood pressure medication, so I’ve alerted my physician and he may have to adjust the dosage appropriately, but it’ll be worth it."
Hocevar’s career trajectory has been marked by consistent improvement. Prior to his full-time Cup Series campaign, he achieved significant success in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. In 2023, he secured three victories and finished third in the championship standings, showcasing his race-winning capabilities. His debut in the Cup Series in 2023 with Spire Motorsports saw him compete in two events, providing valuable experience and laying the groundwork for his current full-season effort.
Spire Motorsports, co-owned by Jeff Dickerson and T.J. Puchay, has been strategically building its presence in the NASCAR Cup Series. The organization acquired the assets of the former Leavine Family Racing team in late 2020, and has since focused on strengthening its technical alliances and driver lineup. The signing of Hocevar to such an extended contract is a clear indication of their long-term investment in establishing a consistent and competitive program.
The NASCAR Cup Series season continues with a challenging schedule, and Hocevar’s extension provides a stable foundation for both the driver and the team as they navigate the remaining races and plan for the future. The team’s performance this season, marked by Hocevar’s consistent top-ten and top-five runs, suggests that Spire Motorsports is on an upward trajectory, with Hocevar at the helm. His commitment through the 2030s suggests a belief within Spire that he is the driver capable of leading them to their ultimate goals, including race wins and championship contention.
The strategic advantage of securing a driver of Hocevar’s caliber for such an extended period cannot be overstated. It provides continuity for sponsorship renewals and allows for methodical development of the team’s engineering and competition departments, knowing they have a committed driver to build around. As the sport continues to evolve, Spire Motorsports’ decision to anchor its future with Carson Hocevar signals a bold and ambitious plan for sustained success in the premier NASCAR series.
The extension also allows Hocevar to continue his development within a familiar and supportive environment. Having joined Spire Motorsports for his Cup Series debut in 2023, he has witnessed and contributed to the team’s significant growth. This familiarity is often crucial for young drivers aiming to reach their full potential at the highest level of stock car racing. His ability to transition from a successful Truck Series competitor to a consistently competitive Cup Series driver in a relatively short period has impressed observers and solidified his reputation as one of NASCAR’s most exciting young talents. The long-term deal ensures that this promising partnership will continue to unfold on the track for years to come.
