Martinsville Speedway is set to host a significant milestone for veteran NASCAR driver and team owner Brad Keselowski, as he prepares for his 600th career start in the NASCAR Cup Series. This remarkable achievement places him in an exceptionally exclusive fraternity of drivers, with only 34 individuals in the nearly 3,000 drivers who have competed in the Cup Series having reached this mark.
Keselowski, a 42-year-old champion and co-owner of RFK Racing, has demonstrated remarkable resilience and performance early in the 2026 season, despite managing a leg injury. His continued competitiveness was evident in his fifth-place finish at the Daytona 500 and a strong showing at Darlington Raceway less than a week prior, where he narrowly missed a victory.
Since his Cup Series debut with Hendrick Motorsports at Texas Motor Speedway in November 2008, the Michigan native has carved out a career that many would consider Hall of Fame worthy. His impressive resume includes 36 race victories, encompassing three of the sport’s four coveted "Crown Jewels." Notably, he clinched the 2012 NASCAR Cup Series championship, besting a field that included Jimmie Johnson. One of his most memorable early wins came at Talladega Superspeedway, where he secured his first checkered flag in a dramatic finish that saw him and Carl Edwards battling intensely, resulting in Edwards’ car flipping through the air.
Reflecting on his impending 600th start, Keselowski expressed a sense of gratitude and disbelief. "I just wanted to have a career and was trying to prove myself," he stated. "To think that I’ve had another 599 since then is pretty cool. I just want to sit down with a 24-year-old me and tell him that was going to happen." He further elaborated on his initial aspirations: "When I first got in a Cup car, I just wanted to be here. I didn’t think about anything outside of that. I didn’t think of the stats. I didn’t think about the accolades, I just wanted to be here and I’m lucky to be here."

However, Keselowski’s ambitions do not appear to be waning with this significant milestone. He has openly expressed a desire to reach 800 career starts, a benchmark only achieved by ten other drivers in NASCAR history. Achieving this goal would mean Keselowski would continue racing into his late 40s, potentially through the 2031 season. Given his current level of performance and his role as a team owner, such a timeline appears entirely feasible, allowing him to dictate his own racing schedule.
Keselowski’s journey through NASCAR has been marked by a distinctive evolution. He initially emerged as a fiery, aggressive competitor, often engaging in heated rivalries with more established drivers. The widely recalled altercation with Jeff Gordon during the 2014 championship battle exemplifies this early chapter of his career. Over time, he has matured into one of the sport’s most respected veterans, known for his consistent performance and strategic acumen.
His rapid ascent in the Cup Series was undeniable, culminating in a championship in only his third full-time season. While that remains his sole title, Keselowski has consistently contended for victories, including a runner-up finish in the 2020 championship.
Beyond his driving career, Keselowski is actively building a new legacy as a team owner with RFK Racing. After a successful tenure with Team Penske, where he could have potentially vied for more championships in the Next Gen era, Keselowski made a significant strategic move. He transitioned from a secure position with a championship-contending team to take on the challenge of revitalizing RFK Racing, a storied organization that had fallen from its past dominance.
The rebuilding process has been arduous, presenting challenges for Keselowski both as a driver and as an owner. In his four years with RFK Racing, he has secured only one victory. However, his commitment to restoring the team’s competitive edge is evident. RFK Racing, once a powerhouse that won consecutive championships in 2003 and 2004 and fielded five full-time entries, had dwindled to two cars and struggled to find Victory Lane in the decade leading up to Keselowski’s arrival. Since his involvement, the team has achieved six wins, with five of those attributed to Chris Buescher, and has successfully expanded back to a three-car operation.
Currently, all three RFK Racing entries are positioned within the top 12 in the championship standings. If this upward trajectory continues, Keselowski’s impact as a team owner could rival his accomplished racing career.
For Sunday’s 600th start at Martinsville Speedway, Keselowski is scheduled to begin the race from the 23rd position. The historic short track, known for its demanding nature and close-quarters racing, could provide an opportune venue for him to end a 65-race winless streak.
The 600th start is a testament to Keselowski’s enduring passion and dedication to NASCAR. His career trajectory, from a young, hard-charging driver to a seasoned champion and influential team owner, continues to be a compelling narrative in the sport. His commitment to RFK Racing’s resurgence, coupled with his continued drive on the track, suggests that his impact on NASCAR will extend well beyond this significant statistical milestone.
