Hendrick Motorsports has announced that Alex Bowman has received medical clearance to return to the cockpit of the No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet for the upcoming NASCAR Cup Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway. Bowman, who has been sidelined for the past month due to recurring symptoms of vertigo, is set to rejoin his team for the challenging short-track event.
The 32-year-old driver was forced to step out of his race car during the Cup Series event at Circuit of the Americas (COTA), with Myatt Snider taking over to complete the race. Following this, Anthony Alfredo piloted the No. 48 at Phoenix Raceway, and Justin Allgaier subsequently filled the seat for races at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Darlington Raceway, and Martinsville Speedway.
Bowman expressed his gratitude for the support he has received throughout his recovery process. "I’m grateful for the support I’ve had from Hendrick Motorsports, my sponsor Ally, our fans and the medical team throughout this process," Bowman stated in a release from the team. "It’s been tough being out of the car, but we all wanted to make sure I was 100% ready before returning. Earlier in the week, Bowman completed several laps in a street car at the Hendrick-owned Ten Tenths Motor Club road course.
