The incident, which saw Antonelli’s high-performance Mercedes company car collide with a guardrail, has been confirmed by his team, who have also stated that his involvement in the upcoming test programme remains unaffected.
The incident took place last Saturday evening in Serravalle, a municipality in San Marino, where Antonelli resides. According to an official report filed by local traffic police, the accident involved only Antonelli’s vehicle, a Mercedes AMG GT 63 PRO 4MATIC+ "Motorsport Collectors Edition," which sustained damage after impact with a roadside guardrail. No other vehicles or individuals were involved in the collision.
Mercedes-AMG F1 Team subsequently issued a statement confirming the details of the incident, alleviating immediate concerns regarding Antonelli’s well-being. "Last Saturday evening, near his home in San Marino, Kimi was involved in a road accident," the statement read. "The police attended the scene after being called by Kimi. His was the only car involved and, although the vehicle sustained damage, Kimi was completely unharmed." This prompt reassurance from the team underscored the gravity of the situation, given Antonelli’s pivotal role in their future plans, but also provided relief that the young driver escaped physical injury.
