Michael Annett, Accomplished NASCAR Racer and Series Winner, Passes Away at 39

The NASCAR Xfinity Series was where Annett truly found his stride and left a significant mark. Between 2008 and 2021, he competed in 321 Xfinity Series races. A particularly impactful chapter of his career was his tenure with JR Motorsports, co-owned by NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. It was with this team that Annett secured his sole NASCAR victory, triumphing in the 2019 season opener at Daytona International Speedway. He achieved a career-best fifth-place finish in the championship standings in 2012 while driving for Richard Petty Motorsports. He made a limited foray into the NASCAR Truck Series, starting nine races and achieving a runner-up finish at Kentucky Speedway in 2008, coming within half a second of victory. Furthermore, before his national series career, Annett was a two-time winner in ARCA competition, capturing checkered flags at Talladega Superspeedway in 2007 and Daytona International Speedway in 2008.

His final competitive appearance at NASCAR’s national level occurred in 2021, concluding his season with an eleventh-place finish in the championship finale at Phoenix Raceway. That same year, Annett was sidelined for a portion of the season due to a stress fracture in his right femur, a testament to the physical demands of the sport.
