Santiago German, a 20-year-old chess prodigy from the Philippines, has won the 6th ZOR Chess Championship 2023 in Dubai, qualifying for the prestigious tournament by earning both FIDE and ECF ratings. German, the son of a Dubai-based businessman and an undergraduate at the University of Warwick in the UK, has been flourishing in various chess leagues and is currently being coached by renowned Chess Grandmaster Saidali Iuldachev.
Despite starting relatively late in the chess world at the age of 14, German has established himself as a top performer, claiming various titles in the UK including first place at the Coventry Rapidplay in December 2021 and as the champion of the Major Section for the Coventry Open Tournament in February 2023. His most recent win at the 6th ZOR Chess Championship 2023 was completed with an undefeated record.
German is honored to represent the Philippines in chess tournaments, hoping to win more trophies for the country as he climbs higher on the international ladder with the support of his coaches and fellow Filipinos.
