Team USA delivered eight victories on the second day of the 2023 Grand Prix boxing tournament in Czechia, securing a minimum of eight bronze medals. Among the boxers to progress to the semifinals were Alyssa Mendoza, who won against Lucie Sedlakcova, Jordan Roach, Jahmal Harvey, and Omari Jones. Joshua Edwards, meanwhile, secured the team’s final victory of the day by beating Delicious Orie of England.
Mendoza clinched her third consecutive international medal of the year with her victory against Sedlakcova. Roach replaced another member of the team and recorded his first win of the tournament, and his first international medal of his career, by defeating Sean Mari of Ireland. Jahmal Harvey, after the Gee Bee Tournament bronze, continued to perform amicably with his calculated jabs and rapid strikes against Jude Gallagher of Ireland, setting him up to compete against Denmark’s Frederik Jensen in the semifinals.
Yoseline Perez lost her match against Jennifer Lehane of Ireland, thereby failing to advance to the medal rounds in her first elite international tournament. Furthermore, Emilio Garcia lost his winning streak after losing to Petr Novak of Czechia due to a walkover. Robby “Rahim” Gonzales, Jennifer Lozano, and Morelle McCane were scheduled to participate, but they all won their bouts due to walkovers, and they were scheduled to compete the following day in the hope of securing a place in the finals.
